All Hollywood films are predictable and formulaic. How far do you agree with this statement? Use specific examples from your own experiences Essay How far do you agree with this statement? Use specific examples from your own experiences. A genre is a certain type of film and they are each defined by certain codes and conventions. Within a genre there can be different categories these are known as sub-genres, for example, a psychological thriller. There are also occasions when in a film there may be a combination of more than one genre this is known as a hybrid. Genre is an excellent way of classifying a film. Audiences will know what to expect when they go too see a film as they will know if they normally like, thrillers, for example then they make the choice of seeing it. They also generally guarantee box office success this is also because of the audience knowing if they will like the film or not. How far do you agree with this statement? Use specific examples from your own experiences specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer There are some problems with codes and conventions of genre and what makes up a certain genre. Sometimes certain films can be too predictable as they follow the codes and conventions too strictly. Usually in horror films, the main victim confronts the force of evil and generally survives. The audience is usually able to predict the ending although sometimes it can work. Although sometimes the audience likes to be able to predict what is going to happen in the movie, too much of this can be boring. Therefore it should have some sort of twist that the audience is not expecting. However not all films strictly follow the codes and conventions of a certain genre, they change to reflect the changes in society. The film Mean Girls is a typical romantic/teen comedy. It uses the general codes and conventions for example; it has the typical teen romance and also the competition between the girls for the one boy. It also has the people who are classified as the freaks and those who are the popular group, who are the cheerleaders; this is typical of a teen comedy. Mean Girls is quite predictable and formulaic, in the way that it has all of the traditional teen flick characters and the traditional teen flick story lines. However I still enjoyed it and thought it was funny. This was because even though I could predict what was going to happen there was one twist in it, which I would not have been able to predict. The way in which it was written was also very funny, and this makes the audience forget about the expected plot of the film. However not all films are predictable, for example, the film SWAT. Which is a hybrid an action-adventure/thriller however it does not really follow the strict codes and conventions of an action- adventure/thriller. It begins with the breaking of the relationship between two best friends and has a major twist in the middle. However after the twist in the middle the plot becomes predictable after that. Although this is not too bad as generally the audience like to be able to predict a certain amount of the film. It is not formulaic and boring and has an element of surprise up until the middle. This has proved a successful method for this film as it has done very well in the box office. However for some other movies this method has not worked quite so well. So it seems that most Hollywood films are generally quite formulaic, however they are not necessarily boring and uninteresting. This can be because of the good script. If it is a comedy genre, and the script is funny and makes the audience laugh then the film can be successful. Also if there is a twist somewhere in the plot of the film that the audience cannot predict then the film can be enjoyable, and not predictable and formulaic. Even though the two films that I have chosen are quite formulaic in the sense that they follow the codes and conventions quite a lot, they are both funny and still held my attention throughout the film.

The Influences of Global Warming on Daily Lives

The Influences of Global Warming on Daily Lives The Influences of Global Warming on Daily Lives Global warming includes a phenomenon that occurs due to subsequent emission of carbon and green house gasses. These gasses possess immense effects on the lives of living organisms that exist in the lower atmosphere. The question include, how exactly does global warming affect the lives of living things in the lower atmosphere? As the harmful gasses get emitted into the atmosphere, they lead to the depletion of the ozone layer. The ozone layer includes a fundamental layer in the upper atmosphere that protects living organisms in the lower atmosphere from the harmful ultra- violet rays. As the earth gets warmed subsequently, immense damages occur in the lower atmosphere. Although this essay talks about the future impacts of global warming, it should occur noted that the influences of global warming already depict themselves. As far as the emission of the greenhouse gasses and carbon continues, the harm imposed on the lower atmosphere by global warming will persist. As such, it occurs as the fundamental duty of humans to reduce activities that lead to global warming. There exist vast impacts that occur due to global warming. As the surface of the earth gets subsequently warmed by global warming, this leads to changes in climatic patterns. For instance, the rainfall patterns tend to change drastically. Moreover, it increases the predominance of certain contagious diseases. Aside from that, global warming may lead to increased coastal erosion. Numerous cases of increased drought periods especially in the United States of America occur due to global warming. However, in some regions, the seasons for growing crops gets prolonged by this phenomenon. Global warming includes a phenomenon that leads to the subsequent rise and fall of ocean levels. The rise in the ocean and sea levels causes flooding on the immediate flood plains. This trend possesses adverse impacts on the persons that dwell on these flood plains. Thus, this forms one of the main ways in which global warming may lead to changes lives of many people. The displacements caused by the floods make most of them homeless. On the other hand, some regions encounter prolonged droughts when the levels of seas and oceans drop. Nations in America and other parts of the world faced prolonged droughts due to this. The effects get adverse in nations that depend entirely on irrigation for their agricultural practices. Another major effect of global warming includes climate change. This comes in form of increased temperatures that lead to either increased or reduced amounts of rainfall. As such, it occurs difficult to tame agricultural production since the rainfall patterns become unpredictable. To that effect, the prices of food tend to hike unpredictably. Thus, the public encounters a rising cost of living. Rising costs of living occur as one of the basic problems faced by people in different states. Moreover, the rising costs occur from the issue of rising costs of food. Most nations tend to face the problem of rising costs of food and looking at this problem closely, once the costs begin to rise, the trend stays constant or worsens. Global warming leads to the reduced production of some of the major crops. Countries such as North America that largely depend on agriculture are yet to experience the drastic effects of global warming on their farming activities. Whereas this gets anticipated, some regions like the wheat and corn producing countries experienced drastic drops in production of these fundamental crops. This occurred due to droughts that came due to the changes in the rainfall patterns. Other impacts of global warming include melting of snow and glaciers. The subsequent rise in temperatures leads to increased melting of these features. Eventually, the water that emerges from the molten glaciers and snow accumulates and flows in rivers, oceans and seas. Due to the influences of global warming, major regions of the world continue to face scarcity of fresh water. A large percentage of the worlds total population depends of fresh water harnessed from lakes. As the temperatures of the lakes such as Lake Superior continue to rise due to global warming, scientists continue to anticipate an increased drop in fresh water. Experiments show that the temperatures of lake waters increased drastically over the years. This occurs as an influence of immense global warming that occurred over the years (Mille 39). Some regions of the world experience future threats of global warming since they lie in areas of potential areas of influence. As atmospheric temperatures continue to rise, economic activities such as tourism in some regions get affected. For instance, areas of recreation and human habitation may get replaced by the oceans due to melting ice. Moreover, recreational activities may get scrapped off since these regions may get covered by water. This causes drastic effects on the economy of the nations in question since tourist activities would seize. The revenue earned from tourism would no longer exist. The coastal margins would get covered or destroyed completely. Certain regions around the globe have experienced increasing and prolonged droughts. These occurred due to the increasing atmospheric temperatures caused by global warming. These high temperatures have led to abrupt fires in the regions of influence. As such, people who dwell in such regions had to move to new regions for safety. As the temperatures increase to cause immense droughts in various regions, more fires will occur. This would definitely cause drastic changes to the lives of most people. Global warming also leads to an immense destruction of the ecosystem. Some animals are forced to vacate their habitats due to the weather changes. Moreover, the effects occur on both aquatic animals and animals that live on land. For instance, some of these animals move to regions of suitable climate. As such, some of these wild animals find themselves in human habituated regions where they either destroy property or kill humans. Fishing activities also get interrupted since the fish may move to other regions that suit them in terms of availability of planktons and adequate temperatures. Thus, potential fishing grounds get destructed by this trend. In addition, the reduction in fish production leads to a subsequent reduction in production of fish and fish products in the local and world markets. Therefore, the public encounters a rise in food prices (Newton 16). When the atmospheric temperatures rise, the growing periods get prolonged. As such, the conditions necessary for growth of crops on the farms need close monitoring until the crops finally grow. For instance, the crops would require continued irrigation until the growing season ends (Kaye 54). The impacts of global warming appear drastic on plant and animal species that cannot withstand the high temperatures. Thus, some of the species of plants and animals that cannot adjust to these temperature changes tend to encounter extinction. As such, most of the species of plants and animals face extinction. A good example of plants that faced extinction includes the bamboo tree. This tree recently grows on limited shores of major oceans (Langholz 23). As the temperatures, continue to rise beyond 2.5 degrees Celsius, more animals move towards the Polar Regions where the temperatures occur rather cooler. The tropical cycle tends to increase as the global temperatures continue to rise. Moreover, the effects of global warming would occur more drastic on those who live along the coastline. Poor nations may also face difficulties in handling such changes since they involve shifting to ne regions for safety. Before this vacations happen, many lives may get lost due to floods caused by the rising sea levels (Braasch 67). In conclusion, global warming includes a phenomenon that occurs due to the emission of carbon and other greenhouse gasses. These gasses lead to the subsequent rise in atmospheric temperatures and this refers to global warming. Global warming posed several risks on different parts of the world. Moreover, other regions continue to stay under the risks of global warming as the temperatures continue to increase. For instance, as the temperatures rise continuously, the sea and ocean levels may rise or fall. In case of a rise in the sea level, the risks include floods and destruction of the sea and ocean shore. As such, this affects recreational activities and tourism (Stein 45). Another major problem that is accompanied by global warming includes the reduction in fresh water sources. Increased temperatures lead to evaporation of major lakes that provide fresh water to a large percentage of the worlds population. The food prices also tend to rise since the drought caused by global warming leads to reduces sources of water for irrigation. Rainfall patterns also change when there occurs a rise in temperature. In the event of increased global warming, certain species of plants and animals also encounter extinction. Some animals seek cooler regions such as the Polar Regions. As they struggle to adapt to the new environments, some of these species encounter extinction. Finally, it occurs as the sole duty of man to evade further global warming. This occurs when some of the risky activities such as greenhouse activities and pollution are avoided (Valsson).

Critically evaluate one aspect of your chosen reserach article Essay

Critically evaluate one aspect of your chosen reserach article - Essay Example On the other hand, qualitative methods are generally supported by the interpretivist (also referred to as constructivist) who portrays the world in which reality is socially constructed, complex, and ever changing. Each represents a fundamentally different inquiry paradigm and researcher actions are based on the underlying assumptions of each paradigm. Strauss and Corbin, (1990) states that qualitative research, is any kind of research that produces findings not arrived at by means of statistical procedures or other means of quantification. Quantitative researchers seek causal determination, prediction, and generalization of findings; while qualitative researchers seek instead illumination, and understanding to similar situations. Therefore, qualitative analysis results in a different type of knowledge than does quantitative inquiry. Glesne (1999) states that qualitative researchers seek out a variety of perspectives; they do not reduce the multiple interpretations to a norm. She adds that in qualitative research, face-to-face interactions are the predominant distinctive feature and also the basis for its most common problem. Such problem she states include researchers’ involvement with the people they study and the accompanying challenges, and opportunities that such closeness brings. Straus and Corbin (1990) claim that qualitative methods can be used to better understand any phenomenon about which little is yet known. They can also be used to gain new perspectives on things about which much is already known, or to gain more in-depth information that may be difficult to convey quantitatively, or where the researcher has determined that quantitative measures cannot adequately describe or interpret a situation. Questionnaires were used in the study as a means of collecting data from participants, with an aim in obtaining their personal views on the safety and security of their children. Campbell et al

Reflection in Classroom Management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Reflection in Classroom Management - Essay Example The system is also not punitive, which appeals to me. Essentially, Sayeski and Brown advocate a model of classroom management with three tiers. The first tier is teacher-focused. It details how a teacher sets behavioral expectations in the classroom, clearly communicates these expectations, sets a positive classroom climate, and creates meaningful instruction. If a teacher examines all of these points, she will eliminate the majority of behavioral issues in the classroom. The second tier focuses on minor classroom disturbances by creating a reinforcement system. This system can be rewards that the students earn for good behavior, or it can be privileges that students lose for poor behavior. The system can address individuals and groups. The third tier emphasizes individual behavioral interventions. Essentially, for chronic misbehavior, the teacher assesses the cause of the student’s behavior and creates an individual plan to address this behavior. The plan can establish reward s and punishments, but it focuses on teaching the child the proper social skills to control his behavior. Overall, I found that the article connects well to my personal experiences. If a teacher spends time developing the first tier, i.e. deciding what behaviors she wants from students and what she will not tolerate, the students will generally follow the rules. In my experience, most students want the teacher to like them and will follow the rules if they are clear and communicated to the student. The second tier is a good method for addressing behavioral issues arising from groups or for when students forget the rules and expectations of the first tier. It provides a means for establishing order when a large number of students become too restless. I found the third tier to be very useful. The students who cause the most issues in the classroom are usually individuals who lack the social skills to engage in appropriate behavior. To avoid embarrassing the student, I like that the th ird tier calls for meeting with the student individually and developing a method of improving the student’s behavior. I believe that the goal of education is to teach a student and not just punish him. This three tier method focuses on teaching students appropriate social skills and behavior and not just punishing them. Personal Behavioral Management Plan Students must have an ordered learning environment in order to demonstrate proper behavior. When students are not aware of what the teacher requires, they exhibit poor behavior due to frustration and ignorance. We, as teachers, cannot expect to follow rules and routines that we do not communicate to our students. Below is a sample classroom management plan that introduces rules, procedures, and consequences that the teacher will follow to create an ordered, positive learning environment. Sample Classroom Management Plan Rules 1. No profanity. 2. No sleeping. 3. Raise hand to speak. 4. Bring materials to class. 5. Be in assig ned seat. 6. All other rules as explained in your student handbook. Special Policies 1. You are allowed bathroom privileges. I only ask a few things: a. sign and date the sign out sheet b. leave and return quietly and in a timely fashion c. if you use your pass-out improperly, you will lose bathroom privileges d. you may also lose privileges for excessive trips 2. You will have the opportunity to correct any assignment that you

Moreover, they help to share videos, photos, and ideas with friends, family members, and associates. Several positive aspects of these social media networking sites influence the teens and children to become members of these social media networking sites. ... YouTube helps the young students to collect several online study materials and practical learning experiences. Social media networks have several key advantages that can help the society in many ways. For example, social media networking sites can develop opportunities for community engagement (O’Keeffe and Clarke-Pearson 1). Online fund raising activity through social media can enhance the charity programs. Volunteering and charity programs for local philanthropic events to help the people who are affected by several disasters are a great positive utilization of social media networking sites. Apart from all these aspects, social media networking sites help to foster unique social skills and individual identity of a skilled and intelligent teen and child (Deihl and Toelle 1). Analysis of Rio Tinto Mining Company

Analysis of Rio Tinto Mining Company   Industry: Rio Tinto Rio Tinto is a leading global mining company that focuses on finding, mining, processing and marketing the Earths mineral resources [1]. Its mining operation operates globally ranging from Copper assets in America, coal in South Africa to Iron in Australia. Its current revenue in GBP sits at  £27.22bn operating at a net income of  £3.72bn. Year on year Rio Tinto grew net income at 433%. Since January 2016 share prices have risen from  £1700, to  £3600, as the mining sector has exploded. Its no great surprise, with the costs of iron ores rising, the manufacturing sector exploding, and the demand for commodities having gone through the roof. Its main competitors are also mining companies; Anglo American plc, Glencore PLC and BHP to name a few. They have followed similar trends to Rio Tinto and have seen their share prices soar in the most recent months. Table 1.0 shows the comparison in debt and equity between the four companies. 2015 Debt (mil USD) Equity (mil USD) RIO:LSE 23,300 37,349 AAL:LSE 17,967 16,569 GLEN:LSE 48,980 41,254 BLT:LSE 31,170 64,768 In 2016 Rio Tinto has managed to cut its debt to $18,372mil and grew its equity to $39,290mi. 2) By just looking at figure 2.2 we can determine how volatile the RIO share price has been especially since the winter of 2015. It seems every other month (since Nov 15), has either been strongly positive or strongly negative. Before these months, the share price followed a similar trend to that of the FTALLSH with a few exceptions (early 2013). The overall monthly mean return sits at 0.4%, 0.5% lower than the average mean return of FTALLSH. The standard deviation (risk) is also considerably higher at 8.31% (compared to 3.04% FTALLSH). As an investor, I would want my average return to be higher as the risk became higher. In this instance, this is not the case. FTALLSH has a higher return but a much lower risk, and as an investor, this would be my preferred choice. We must take into account that if as an investor we took a long position with RIO at JAN 16, our share value has doubled. Annual mean return data is calculated by: When looking at annual data (October of each year), we can see the mean return has significantly increased on both the FTALLSH and the RIO. The slope of the line through a portfolio is given by the Sharpe ratio (figure 2.4). The risk free interest rate per annum is 1%. FTALLSH has higher annual returns than the risk free interest rate, but RIO has much lower returns. As an investor, you want better returns for higher risk. If the return is less than that of a risk free investment, the investment in RIO is not worth undertaking. 3) Correlation measures the degree in which two markets move in relation with each other. The correlation value ranges from -1 to +1. If the correlation is 0, the markets do not move in relation at all. Both the annual and monthly data has a mediocre correlation against the FTALLSH. This is probably mainly affected by the last 6 months data shown in figure 2.1, with how volatile the RIO market has been. Covariance is also measured by how changes in one market are associated with changes in the other market. It doesnt really give the strength of the relationship between the two markets as well as correlation does. This is why it isnt used to determine the relationship but it is vital in finding the Beta of the portfolio. Expected return = Volatility = Annual, Monthly, Annually, the Beta of the RIO market vs the FTALLSH, is 0.75, to be expected, as the correlation is mediocre, and the mean return is also high. The Beta of the market should be exactly 1. Therefore, the asset is defensive. The expected excess return is linked to its risk. As the market has a Beta of 1, and the Beta of RIO is .75, the RIO beta is 25% less volatile. Monthly, the beta is above 1 and is 44% more volatile. If the market rises or falls by  £1, the RIO return will rise or fall by  £1.44. The Capital Asset Pricing Model allows the investor to identify the best portfolio of risky assets without knowing the expected return on each of securities [3]. The CAPM equation (annual return) implies a positive result. As the annual return suggested by the CAPM is only 8.5%, and the annual return computed for RIO is 1.24%, the market is under-performing, and investors are being under-compensated for bearing the market risk. Monthly return is slightly positive. As the monthly return for RIO is 0.40%, and the monthly CAPM is 0.09%, Rio is outperforming the return suggested by the CAPM. Therefore, investors are being over-compensated for bearing the market-risk. The CAPM also implies that the annual return has a higher risk but worse return, and the monthly return has a lower risk but higher return [6]. Limitations Monthly risk free rate will not be exactly 1% every single month Return on the market. The market return at any given time can be negative. CAPM is a backwards looking model. Anything can happen (environmentally, politically, etc.) that can change the market FTALLSH is a limitation and is not the true market portfolio. Annually Beta = 0.75. If the market rose by 5%, the return would rise by If the market fell by 10% Monthly Beta = 1.44. If the market rose by 5%, the return would rise by If the market fell by 10% The monthly return has higher chance of greater returns, (the Beta is higher), however it also has a higher chance of bigger losses. If the markets rose by 5%, annually the investor would make a 4% return, vs 6.8% return on monthly data. Annual Return This means short selling RIO Tintos shares, and buying excess shares of market x. If the portfolio returns are uncorrelated, this gives a correlation of 0. As we know à Ã‚ = 0, the equation becomes Working out the portfolios Beta 4) CAPM Return = 8.5% To work out the PV of the project the company is considering, the discount factor is needed to be known. Assuming the companys required rate of return is given by the expected return on its equity, i.e. the CAPM return. As the CAPM equation has computed the expected returns, this is therefore the discount rate. The present value is worth more than the initial value of  £554,509.46> £500,000 so its a good deal for the company. This project could be set up for a multitude of reasons, which may affect its markets price in a positive way, such as new jobs for a local area, which in turn will boost the company politically which may also contribute to the success of the company. It is also important to note that even though the present value of the cost of this project is better than the contract being offered, RIO Tinto wont be positive in net return until the 9th year. The NPV is positive as expected, so the benefits outweigh the costs [3]. If the company wanted to just make cash money on  £500,000 they could just invest (risk-free) receiving,  £569,046 in 13 years time. 5) The method of comparables, values a firms cash flows directly, based on other firms (usually in a similar industry), that have similar cash flows or are expected to generate similar cash flows. The Law of One Price states that, If equivalent investment opportunities trade simultaneously in different competitive markets, then they must trade for the same price in both markets [3]. Using the Law of One Price we can use a company to measure (estimate) the valuation of a very similar company. As everyone knows, identical companies do not exist, but companies such as RIO, can have very similar competitors that prices can be judged by. The price/earnings ratio (share price / earnings per share), is the most commonly used ratio to measure the companys valuation. The more comparables there are, the better the reduced influence of any given company, making the overall result more trustworthy. When choosing the correct comparables to match against RIO, they all should have similar growth rates, similar required rate of returns and similar retention of earnings. I have chosen the three other mining companies, (Anglo American plc, Glencore plc, BHP) to compare against RIO. To value a companys current price using multiples: Using three other similar mining companies, to work out an average forward P/E ratio. According to Thomson Banker [9], the average P/E ratio of the three other companies (19.00) is much higher than the actual 10.98 RIO value (+73.04%). The Last Price Close of RIO on the 20/02/2017 was 36.46. The value we calculated is much higher than the actual value. Therefore, we have overvalued the share price, and should be bought. The P/E multiple is high for companies that have higher growth rates. The current P/E ratios are high across the board, with AAL, the only company estimating to grow its P/E next year. All three others are expecting to stop growing, with BHP (BLT), to step back massively. The companies compared above, are all mining companies, having spectacular performance in the markets, but realistically quite different. From figure 1.1, we know the difference in Equity and Debt values are similar, but RIO has much higher earnings per share (2.84), than any of the other three companies. Other than the Forward P/E ratio, RIO has the best values for all the metrics. We know that when we average the other three companies out, that the multiples based analysis will generally undervalue RIO. The differences are due to differences in expected risk, growth rate, etc. Multiples based valuation should ignore major anomalies, (e.g. GLENs 33.12 forward P/E ratio. Using the two other ratios gives an average of 11.98 which is much closer to the actual value of RIO). The set of comparables that were chosen (bar AAL), were not the best choice to match against RIO, as many of the metrics were so far apart. Q6) Arbitrage opportunities occur when a companys price across two markets is different, and will always have a positive Net Present Value. An investor, (who is known to be greedy and want any possible risk free return), will immediately attempt to buy the lower priced share on one market, and sell the same share on the higher priced market, instantly making him/her a no risk return. Everyone will attempt to trade using this method quickly, therefore, the lower priced market will rise and the higher priced market will fall, both eventually ending up at the same price. All markets aim to have an absence of arbitrage to stop any greedy investors from exploiting risk free returns. If equivalent investment opportunities trade simultaneously in different competitive markets, then they must trade for the same price in both markets [3]. If the Law of One Price is being applied correctly, there will be in absence of arbitrage across all markets. Bond Prices and interest rates also need to follow the Law of One Price. If a bond of a certain market gave a higher return than the risk free rate, they both need to follow the Law of One Price. The risk-free interest rate must equal the return from the investment of the risk-free bond. American Depository Receipts are quick and easy ways for investors in the US, to trade with foreign companies [10]. US banks will buy foreign shares and reissue them on US markets. However, each share does not equal the same amount as the original market. US banks will often group shares together, and reissue them separately on their markets. ADRs exist because foreign companies dont want the expense or hassle of listing their stocks on the foreign to them US market [10]. To invest in an ADR, brokers will need to buy foreign shares of said company, on their respective markets. He/she will then deliver these shares to a Custodian bank. Another bank, the Depositary bank issues receipts, on the basis those shares held by Custodian banks. Those receipts can then be traded freely across US markets, with payments, dividends etc., being paid in US dollars. ADRs save money by reducing foreign taxes and administration costs, and also because they give the company exposure. There are many risks involved with ADRs. Like normal market shares, there are political risks, inflationary risks etc. However, with ADRs, there are exchange rate risks. Using Tesco as the example [8], as the exchange rate of USD: GBP continues to improve for the US market, many investors will be looking to buy into British companies as its cheaper for them to do so. As the British and US markets trade at different hours, the closing prices of the Tesco share will be different, but in the normal market, the price of Tesco will be the same across all of the three different exchanges, (the Law of One Price), relative to that of their respective growth rates. Every Tesco ADR share represents 3 normal shares [8]. The current value of Tescos is 189.77p, and the value of its ADR = $7.19 [7]. If we divide the ADR value by 3. Using the current exchange rate of  £1 = $1.25512 [4]  £1.91 is slightly higher than the actual value of Tesco ( £1.90), but this is not taking into consideration the costs of administration, and exchange fees. The above is showing how the Law of One Price is applied across two different markets. Bibliography [1] FT. (2017) Rio Tinto PLC, RIO: LSE summary FT.com. Personal Skills Inventory Essay

The most important skill in life is learning how to communicate effectively. Working in the business industry communication is important factor in the success of the business and daily tasks such as giving employees’ feedback, writing reports, giving presentations, conducting interviews and sending emails. How we communicate varies among each individual as well as how we perceive our own personal communication skills. While we may think that we are communicating effectively others around us my find that we communicate poorly. Based on my experiences on an off the job, my communicative skills have always been mediocre at best. In order to validate this, I will participate in an online test courtesy of mindtools.com. My decision to choose this communication quiz was based on the depth of details it provided me upon completion of the quiz. The quiz had 15 questions which addresses each stage of the communication process. A score interpretation was provided and also a detailed interpretation for improving my skills in each area. Based on my score interpretation, I am a capable communicator, but I sometimes experience communication problems. I need to take more time to think about my approach to communication, and focus on receiving messages effectively as much as sending them. The encoding part of the communication process was my weakest area. This showed that I have difficulty creating a clear and well-crafted message which often leads to a communication gap. Communication gaps are frequently caused by misdirected, one-way, poorly time, or badly worded communications. In addition, some gaps result from misunderstanding, misinterpretations, and miscommunications. This part of the test really struck home because often during face-to-face communication with my teams I am unaware of how my communication is breaking up which can result in lack of interest in my teams attention and possibly communicating a message that’s unclear and misunderstood. However the test indicated that my online Communication was clearer and effectively delivered. I often use online communication as a secondary tool because way to often text messages and emails are taken out of context but it seems that this type of communication is more effective. To ensure that I communicate in the clearest, most effective way possible for work and future courses such as business communication and psychology I intend to seek additional training with my least proficient communication skills using the many services that Walden has provided such as The writing center, grammarly and the Walden Student Library. To aid me in my journey of better communication I plan to use the directions and opinions of my professors, classmates and employees. Writing Skills: Writing is a process; as in all processes, there is a beginning, middle, and an end. The attitude in which we take toward writing creatively may cause problems in terms of how other writers’ perceive one’s writing skills. Not knowing what to write or how to write effectively is the start of the writer’s breakdown. In this section of my essay I will explain my need for strengthening the writing skills that I already possess and how I plan to use them to my advantage. Whenever I’m faced with a writing project I become tense and stressed, ever since high school I have always suffered from writers’ block which is the inability to remember or think of something you normally can do. In order to get pass this stumbling block I first have to clear my head of any thoughts that could clutter my writing. It’s very hard to be expected to write clearly without having a clear mind. As my high school English would always say â€Å"Don’t blame the reader if he can’t follow your writing†. It is the writer’s job to convey his meaning to the reader, not the reader’s job to figure out what the writer is trying to express. While I have many strong points to my writing I possess weak areas as well, these areas of improve include introductions and conclusions, my introductions are not supportive enough and sometimes weak for my topics, my conclusions in my opinion are always weak, I think because after writing for so long I run out thing to say or support my topics. My goals for my future courses are to submit the perfect papers and earn all points possible, I plan to take advantage of all the resources that Walden has to offer in aiding my success as a student and professional. Time Management Skills: Time management is very important to academic and overall life success. Learning to manage your time effectively can be a headache for people that are trying to juggle work, school, and family life. For me it seems that there is just not enough time in the day to complete all of my tasks successfully. When it comes to effective time management it is important to possess skills and tools that will fit your personal lifestyle. I find it important to try every angle of time management until you determine which one will be most beneficial to you. In my experience with being a Wife, Mother, and working two fulltime jobs time management is a must have, it will aid in deleting some of the stress brought on by a crazy schedule. Some improvements that I would like to make immediately include goal setting, creating a to-do list and organizing. I am the Queen of procrastination and it is my ultimate down fall even though I am fully aware that for an individual to achieve his or her goals it is important that I develop a plan to carry out that goal, which in turn requires effective time management skills. Effective time management is something that will make or break an individual, not only in the academic setting, but also in life as well. According to an online tool â€Å"Keys to Success† Identifying personal time-related needs and preferences is the first step in developing an individualized time management plan. The best way to achieve this is to make up a schedule that incorporates all necessary aspects of your life. This includes school, family, and work. Prioritizing and time saving methods are also recommended. I plan to utilize the practices provided by Keys to Success and my weekly assignment timelines for success in my future courses, home and work life. Which ethical principle is most prominent in your belief system Autonomy or Fidelity?

Autonomy and fidelity are both applied in my life. I am a kind of person who has strong principle in life and not easily persuade by outside forces; thus, I am also extremely faithful to what I do. However, as fidelity being describe as truthful, I would say that fidelity is more prominent in my belief system. I am very truthful in everything I do. I cherish things with all my heart. I believe that there is no autonomy when an individual does not believe in fidelity. Fidelity should come first before you will become autonomous. The individual’s principles should be strengthened with truth so that no matter how society persuade an individual to do a thing which he believe is not right, he can hold fast to what he believes in and that’s how being autonomous become visible and displayed. In addition, I believe that fidelity is not just important in relationships and friendships but also a superb requirement in serving and treating others as an act of showing love and concern. Fidelity motivates me to do what is right in the sight of our Creator and in the sight of men. It helps me not to be partial with my dealings with other people but with genuine intentions. It gives me, too, a motivation not to betray the trust of other people especially those who are so dear in my heart. Moreover, most people nowadays are having the hard time in facing their own feelings. I must say that I am a kind of an individual who does not run away from the truth. I have the courage and strength to face the reality because that is what fidelity has taught me.

Medicine Bundle Speech Essay Example

Medicine Bundle Speech Essay Example Medicine Bundle Speech Essay Medicine Bundle Speech Essay Medicine Bundle Speech Outline l. Introduction: People would say Girls dont play hockey. Girls dont skate. I would say Watch this. This quote was stated by the first women to play full-time professional hockey in a position other than goalie, Halley Wisenheimer. This extremely talented female went against all the odds and came out on top. How awesome is that If you ask me, a fellow female hockey player, Id say its pretty incredible. I have been playing competitive hockey for the past 14 years of my life. Growing up playing a male nominate sport has impacted my life tremendously and in so many ways has helped form me into the person I am today. Fighting the never ending battle to be accepted and respected in a mans sport, developing the thoughts and emotions of a man, and the impact it has made on mine and my fathers relationship over the years are only a few areas in my life that hockey has impacted. II. Transition Statement: Being a female playing a mans sport is not easy, there is a high standard that you must live up to. A. First off men are naturally more competitive. Most men, in any male dominated sport, feel as though they have to prove their dominance to the female players, which in most cases results in some kind of injury. Over time I realized that I needed to learn to overcome the pain and fight back. I couldnt allow them to intimidate me. B. Secondly as a female Vive always had to fight for my spot on the team that I was I playing for. To be respected in the mens hockey world I quickly discovered that I had to strive to not only be the best female, but the best hockey player on the ice. This kind of demanding life style was difficult to adjust to at first and the stress, well it could be pretty overwhelming sometimes, but overall out-come and all the strengths that I have gained through it all has made me not only a stronger a hockey player but also a much stronger individual in general. Ill. Transition Statement: So with that said, we move along to next topic at hand, developing an understanding of a mans thoughts and emotions. Now many of you may be wondering what exactly it is I mean by this statement. Well as all of us already know men and woman have efferent ways of thinking; dealing with emotions, and senses of humor. Growing up playing hockey, I ended up having pretty much all male friends; therefore I didnt really get to experience the typical girl lingo, never really had much drama to deal with, and I missed out on all the hot gossip. A. The way I socially interact with people, and my way of thinking along with my smart remarks, and blunt personality come from my experiences hanging out with the guys, and also a majority of it comes from what we like to call locker room talk. Urban Dictionary defines locker room talk s the crude, vulgar, offensive, and often sexual trade of comments guys pass to each other. Exists solely for the purpose of male comedy and is not meant to be taken seriously. This quote sums it perfectly. You learn real quickly not to take things the guys. Now there was a time when I wasnt exactly thrilled about that, but over the years I have developed an appreciation for it. My friends have expressed to me time and time again that its their favorite part about me and its what makes me the strong, down to earth, free spirited, understanding and laid back female I am today. V. Transition Statement: Now let me take you back to where it all began. I was the first born female to my family in almost 3 generations. My father, who is from the east coast, and he grew up playing hockey, made it very clear to me as a child that he was hoping for a son. I wanted to be a dancer, as most little girls do, but no he insisted I played hockey instead. A. I didnt want to play hockey, I wanted to be a princess in a castle, or a mermaid under the sea, but instead I tossed those dreams to the side and proceeded to play hockey. For the first few years I had so much resentment towards my dad. Wouldnt you? As time progressed and I started to understand and develop a strong feel for the game, my resentment slowing started to subside. B. I could of been a dancer or a cheerleader, but because of my dads decision to put me in hockey Ive become a unique, strong, fear less, individual and have broken through so many barriers that most people never thought a female could do. For that, I am so very thankful and as the years fly by, its been what keeps us close. V. Conclusion: As Halley Wisenheimer so wisely stated, People would say Girls dont play hockey. Girls dont skate. I would say Watch this. She proves that Just because we as females are smaller and less competitive by nature doesnt mean we cant overcome these high boundaries and come out on top. Fighting the never ending battle to be accepted and respected in a mans sport, developing the thoughts and emotions off man, and the impact it has made on mine and my fathers relationship over the years are only a few areas in my life that hockey has impacted but they are defiantly the most important.

There is a relationship between being a victim of cyberbullying and Essay

There is a relationship between being a victim of cyberbullying and adolescent emotional well-being - Essay Example Literature has denoted that cyber bullying potential effects upwards of 50% of all student aged individuals at some point in their lives. With such a high percentage of impact, it is reasonable to assume that tangential impacts and other causation’s can be affected as a result of this particularly negative behaviour. Litanies of studies have pointed to the fact that cyber bullying has a negative impact upon health, development, and emotional capacity. However, fewer studies have focused upon the direct linkages between cyber bullying and the overall prevalence of depression or low self-esteem.1 As such, the following analysis to engage with these variables and determine whether or not this linkage can fairly and accurately be assumed. Through an engagement with the study in question and an understanding of existing research into the field of human psychology and the impacts of bullying, it is the hope of this author that the researcher can come to a more definitive understandi ng of the impacts that these metrics have upon the student. Tangentially, an even greater hope is that a greater understanding of cyber bullying can assist the researcher in gathering key information that can ultimately be utilized to seek to diminish this type of behaviour; in light of the fact that it has an extraordinarily adverse impact upon the emotional health, outlook, development, and wellbeing of the individual. For purposes of clarity, the methodology that was employed within this particular analysis was originally gathered by Bonnie Barber in Australia. As such, the reports that she collected helped to quantify and categorize the overall levels of depression and self-esteem that were exhibited within groups of students that were both subject to cyber bullying and those that were not. The participants included within this particular data set that were
