The term plural society is define as a society combining cultural contrasts (Fredrik Brath ). In the Malayansian context of use , plural society represents the nations individually and exclusively. in that respect are 3 main races in Malaysia , mainly Malay , Chinese and Indian. Besides that, there are also separate minority ethnic group, such as Iban and Bidayuh. Malaysia is different with some other countries due to its distinctive history. In 1951,the British established elections below the twin pressure of the Emergency and the development of a stiff Malay nationalist movement, that is UMNO. The alliance between UMNO and the Malayan Chinese Association MCA, the two principal common parties and later joined by the Malayan Indian Congress MIC, which was leaded by Tunku Abdul Rahman, won an irresistible and awesome victory during the first federal official elections held in 1955. Due to the pressure of the Alliance, the British force to lift their sovereignty and finally the Federation of Malaya achieved its independence on the thirty-first August 1957 and also Sabah and Sarawak joined Malaysia on 16 kinfolk 1963(Malaysia History). The richness of culture is the benefit of plural society in Malaysia. Each kind of races have different culture and lifestyle, so we can start up to know the difference of culture in Malaysia.

The importance of unity in Malaysia is Strengthening Ethnic Relationship. Malaysia is ethnic mix but is not generally harmonious at last time. In 1969 during the Japanese occupation , Malay and Chinese fought each other and at least two hundreds of mass were killed in riots. This bloodbath were sparked by politics(Sean Yoong).
