Fourteenth A manpowerdment The power is in the word, the fourteenth amendment did not mean anything about the rights of women, only men and slaves, and fluid it only really said men. This did start a problem with womens rights; flat though womens rights were slipping away when humans halt being nomads and men began feeling insecure, having to perform some of the tasks that women would unremarkably do within the settlement. The fourteenth amendment was the beginning of womens suffrage (B-9). The fourteenth amendment started womens suffrage; for the first time, the proposed Amendment added the word manful into the US Constitution. Section 2, which dealt explicitly with voting rights, used the full term male. Womens rights advocates, especially those who were promoting womens suffrage or the granting of the choose to women, were umbrageous that the amendment did not state women as an equal party to men (About.com). Each side of this controversy saw the other as betraying the basic principles of equality: supporters of the 14th Amendment saw the opponents as betraying efforts for racial equality, and opponents saw the supporters as betraying efforts for the equality of the sexes.
Women gain the right to vote in the 1920s, but still to this day women ar still fighting to gain their right to be just as equal as men. Women still get overlooked and sometimes treated unfairly, I know from personal experience. I was a mechanic for Chevrolet, while melt downing there I had to work three times harder than the other 200 male technicians to show it as far as I did. I was forever and a day getting comments about being a woman in a mans job. I eventually inject because I could not take it anymore. In conclusion women are not there yet, but we are getting there. industrial plant Cited About.com womens history www.about.com, 24May2009 Berkin, Miller, Cherny, Gormly; Making America, History of the United States Mifflin guild 2002 If you want to get a full essay, order it on our website: Ordercustompaper.com
