Civil War (One Reason)

The Main Cause of the gracious War
Had thither been no slavery, there would have been no war. Had there been no moral reprehension of slavery, there would have been no war (Ahlstrome 549). The American Civil War lasted from 1861-1865 and led to more than 618,000 Americans killed. The war began on April 12, 1861, when abetter _or_ abettor forces in Charleston, South Carolina, attacked a U.S. military establishment at Fort Sumter. But what led brothers to fight against brothers?
Today we invite slavery as a moral issue, but in the nineteenth century, people saw this as a response to economic problems rather than a moral issue. The Missouri via media of 1820 prohibited slavery. The South had an economic interest in the dissemination of slavery to the wise territories where new slave states could be created. On the other hand, the North had an interest in limiting the hand out of slavery into the new territories to support the moral issues. Slavery was unplowed as a shadow issue that stayed largely the fretfulness of political leaders of the South and abolitionists of the North.

Another issue that push increased the tensions was the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 which repealed the Missouri Compromise of 1820. It created the territories of Kansas and Nebraska, opened new lands which would allow settlers in those territories to decide whether they would allow slavery or whether they would be free.
The civil war ended in 1865 when Sherman marched by Georgia and General Lee surrendered to General Grant at Appomattox.
