F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby brings to light the turpitude of the American dream through the pursuit of pleasure and riches at any cost. The American dream was an estimate that started with our world fathers when they wrote the result of Independence. In the novel, we see how this idea has been twisted into a misshapen version of the original idea through avarice and decayed morals. Then, through the eyes of Fitzgerald’s characters, we will sack learn that money cannot buy our dreams, no matter how ofttimes of it one might have. These words actually bodily structure the minutiae of everyday existence: where we go to school, who we marry, what we buy”(38). When these words were penned, they were in a document that freed us from another country and do us citizens of our own nation and not immigrants to a naked as a jaybird land. These words are what drive immigrants here to find upstart opportunities. Immigrants come to America with dreams of rising above racial and complaisant boundaries to become wealthy and successful.
