Romeo and Juliet is set during the Elizabethan period, vivification was different. Life for women wasnt how it is now, women were inferior to men, they were controlled by their husbands, fathers or by either other man in the family. They were not allowed to hold their take in opinions, views or lifestyle. However Juliet and her father have a truly irregular relationship. Juliet was considered and was seen as valuable when her father first hear virtually Paris love for her. This is very different and flimsy to have happened in reality during that fourth dimension, which is why Romeo and Juliet is said to be modern. This completely contrasts what parents would it would be seen to be atypical. To an Elizabethan audience this could be seen as unusual however it is seen as normal topic to do, to a modern audience.
In act 1, scene 2 Paris asks Capulet for Juliets hand but Capulet refuses because he thinks that she is similarly young and he suggests that he doesnt want to fall behind her. He says: let two more summers with it in her pride/ere we may think her ripe to be a bride. Here Shakespeare uses a metaphor, implying she is a fruit, ripe to suggest that Juliet is not ready for marriage and she is understood blossoming.
This makes you feel/think that Juliet is an innocent girl who doesnt deal anything about love yet. Capulet then says: My daughter is yet a stranger in the world. This tells the audience that Capulet really loves and cares for his daughter and wants to evanesce more time with her. It also suggests that she is a baby because he says she is a stranger which means she is knew and doesnt know anything about life yet. It seems like he feels that if she marries Paris she wouldnt be his anymore and he would be unable to spend time with her. Juliets father is capable, as we learn later, of forcing her to marry whomever he wants whenever he wants but in this scene Capulet seems to be a caring man.
